RECENT WALKS:
Our last event of this year is done and
in the books. We had a warm but very windy day in Owosso. We
had 19 credited walkers and 6 free. Thanks to the help of Mary,
Eunice and Karen K, we had a fairly smooth day. Eunice survived
having the new gazebo shelter get blown onto her at the 2nd
checkpoint. It was nice to see all the Girl Scouts that came to the
5K!
The city was nice enough to open Curwood Castle early for our
walkers to have a chance to tour the inside. The staff at the Arts
Center opened early for us, so we all had access to the restroom and they
made me some hot tea. Memorial Healthcare Center and Owosso Wesleyan
Church allowed us to use their sites for our checkpoints. Thanks to
all of you!
COMING UP NEXT:
I'm going to walk the Holly SRA seasonal route on Sunday, Oct 28. That
is the last day that route will be open for 2007. If you
would like to join me, please let me know.
We have a group walk planned for our
Haslett route on Nov 3. We'll be doing the 6K route that day, so new
walkers, please join us! That route goes into the nature trails of
Lake Lansing Park North, so be prepared. We'll have lunch together
afterward at the Blue Gill Grill, which is the start point
host.
Are you interested in attending the next meeting of AVA's
National Executive Council on December 1? If so, let's carpool on
Friday evening. Let me know.
The Mid-America
Regional Conference is going to be at the Eastland Suites &
Conference Center in Urbana, IL on March 8 and 9. Our van trip will
be leaving Lansing on Friday, March 7 at 1 pm and returning on Sunday,
March 9. There will be a walk
on the campus of the University of Illinois on Saturday the 8th
and another walk through
a local park on Sunday, March 9. There will also be a swim
event on both days. If you want to
reserve a seat in our van, we can pick you up on the way. We'll be taking the I-69
from Lansing through Fort Wayne down to Indianapolis, then taking the I-74 over to
Champaign-Urbana. Once you make your hotel reservations (info on the AVA pages
above), then contact me to reserve your seat in the van.
We'll share the cost of the van rental, which I'm guessing
will run about $80 - $100. Please send a $25 deposit to reserve
your seat for this trip.
Memorial Day weekend we'll do our 2008
Trip to the Mammoth Cave region in Kentucky. Plans are being
formed in cooperation with a local club down there. They will meet
in late October to get back with us about their plans. In general,
the trip will leave early on Saturday, May 24 from Lansing and head
through Ohio into Kentucky where we'll do a walk in Bernheim
Arboretum. On Sunday, May 25, there'll hopefully be an event in
Mammoth Caves. Then on Monday, we'll do the 2
state walk in Louisville , and then
head home. We'll be
taking a van, unless we get enough folks for a bus. Please
send a $25 deposit to reserve your seat for this trip.
