RECENT WALKS:

Tony and I measured out a nice 5K in Crosswinds Marsh.  We'll be setting up another day to measure out the 10K.

This is the hut that will be our start / finish.

It has 6 nice picnic tables inside the screening, so it will work well.

These are some of the boardwalks that will be part of both the 5 and 10 K routes.

On the day of the Mason Down Home Days Family Walk, the weather was cold and windy and threatened to storm.  So, folks mostly stayed home.  We had a mom with 2 children, and a couple do the 6K loop.  Mary came and helped me explain volkssporting and then she swept the trail.  The president of the Mason Chamber of Commerce said that we would try again sometime.

Our group walk in Northville was this morning.  We had beautiful weather.  Teresa and her mom, Joan, did the 5K.  Nancy, Mary, Judy, Chelane, John, Frances and Harris did the 10K.  We had a pleasant stop at Parmenter's Cider Mill where they had cider and donuts as well as wine on the inside and craft stalls on the outside.  Frances and I had our very first apple cider slushies.

We saw the crates of apples at the back of the mill.

COMING UP NEXT:

I'm hoping to test walk in either Crosswinds or Hamburg Township.  If you would like to walk with me, contact me and I'll let you know when and where to meet.

The Washtenaw Wanderers will be holding their 2nd annual event in Independence Lake County Park on Sunday, October 7.

The Mid-America Regional Conference is going to be at the Eastland Suites & Conference Center in Urbana, IL on March 8 and 9.  Our van trip will be leaving Lansing on Friday, March 7 at 1 pm and returning on Sunday, March 9.  There will be a walk on the campus of the University of Illinois on Saturday the 8th and another walk through a local park on Sunday, March 9.  There will also be a swim event on both days.  If you want to reserve a seat in our van, we can pick you up on the way.  We'll be taking the I-69 from Lansing through Fort Wayne down to Indianapolis, then taking the I-74 over to Champaign-Urbana.  Once you make your hotel reservations (info on the AVA pages above), then contact me to reserve your seat in the van.  We'll share the cost of the van rental, which I'm guessing will run about $80 - $100.

Memorial Day weekend we'll do our 2008 Trip to the Mammoth Cave region in Kentucky.  Plans are being formed in cooperation with a local club down there.  They will meet in October to get back with us about their plans.  In general, the trip will leave early on Saturday, May 24 from Lansing and head through Ohio into Kentucky where we'll do a walk in Bernheim Arboretum.  On Sunday, May 25, there'll hopefully be an event in Mammoth Caves.  Then on Monday, we'll do the 2 state walk in Louisville , and then head home.  We'll be taking a van, unless we get enough folks for a bus.  Let me know if you are interested in going.
