The Birmingham group walk was very nice! The group included Joan, Amy, Pam, Nancy, Eunice, Elaine, Karen K and Chelane. There were various painted tigers on the streets, but my camera was back in the van and I didn't get any pics. On Monday, April 2, we had a group walk in Howell.
Pictured are Chelane, Maggie, Jim, Mary, Judy, Frances and Harris. On March 29, Joan and I went to meet with folks from the Auburn Hills Senior Programs. They are putting together a "100 Days of Fitness" for this summer and asked us to help them out. So, I am going to speak on May 18 and then Joan is going to run an event starting at the Auburn Hills Community Center on July 6. The route is going to be mostly on the campus of Oakland University. Joan and I worked out a route that goes out to Meadowbrook Hall and some big sculptures.
Jerry and I were in Owosso last week and we got agreement from the Comstock Inn to serve as the host for a YRE there, starting 2008. I have been contacted by a couple of state park supervisors that want to host AVA routes in their parks. This week I am going to head out to Sterling State Park near Monroe on Wednesday and to Pontiac Lake State Rec Area on Friday. If you would like to join in on route development on either or both days, let me know. Our next group walk will be April 28 in Lakelands Trail State Park, starting in Stockbridge. This route counts toward State Parks, Railroads (since it's a Rails-to-Trails), and Cemeteries. We're going to need volunteers at our State Park walk on May 26. It looks like its going to be at Pontiac Lake instead of Maybury due to some park administrative issues. Anyway, if you plan to be there and want to volunteer, please let me know! We're going to need people to mark the trails, help with registration, do check points, help with finish table, and sweep the trails. We sent in our 1st quarter reports on our YREs. We reported 43 credited walks and 1 free. Any info we missed will get reported for the 2nd quarter. There's a discussion forum that I set up on Google Groups called "Michigan Volkssporting". If you haven't yet joined, please do! It makes it so much easier for me to notify you of club news through the forum. There are folks there from all the Michigan clubs.
