Those of us who drove the 127 south to Jackson drove through a downpour, but by the time we were all registered and started off, the rain had slacked up.  So, we walked nice and dry and cool.  Very pleasant!

Pictured are  (back) Jim & Mary, Pat, Louise and Jean, (middle) Judy, Nancy and Rob, (front) Dot, Joan, Eunice and Roxie.

We had lunch at Steve's Ranch Restaurant after the walk.  This is Mary and her friend, Judy, who is a new volkssporter and going to be our newest club member along with her hubby (who was doing demo for their basement leak repair).

Mary, Judy and I are going to do the Howell walk on Thursday, Mar 29, meeting at the hospital at 10 am.  If you would like to join us, please do!

Last week, Pam Gerecke joined me and Eunice on the Brighton test walk.

I pictured them next to one of the many sculptures along the route.

This is a caboose by one of the downtown stores.

I spotted this pair of sandhill cranes that were scouting out a nesting site behind the high school athletic fields. (Thanks, Rob G, for the help with ID.)

On Friday, I went to Owosso and did some scouting for our fall event there.

That's the Heritage Bridge, near the start point.

Curwood Castle is also near our start point.

We are going to have our start point here, on the porch of the Shiawassee Arts Center.  They have a collection of paintings by Impressionist Frederick Frieseke.  You can see more about him at the Center's web site.

That's the Lebowski Theatre that burned in February.  You can read more about that at:

http://www.shiawasseehistory.com/capitol.html

For our Railroad Program folks, the Steam Railroading Institute will be on the route.  You can learn more about them at:

http://www.mstrp.com/ourcollection.html

Across from there is the local Elks Lodge, housed in the old Grank Trunk Depot.

I didn't take a pic in the cemetery, but the route will go through one, just before we go across the campus of Baker College.

That's the entrance to an about 1.5K nature trail, just south from the college.

I still have to go scout a northern loop which will include historic homes and shopping and the Movie Museum.  I think it will be a very enjoyable walk!  I'm trying to get the Girl Scouts involved and maybe some of the local churches and organizations as well.  We'll see!

If you haven't sent in your dues for 2007, please do that soon.  We'll be sending in new membership numbers at the end of  April.

There's a  discussion forum that I set up on Google Groups called "Michigan Volkssporting".  If you haven't yet joined, please do!  It makes it so much easier for me to notify you of club news through the forum.  There are folks there from all the Michigan clubs.  Use the link below, then click on "Join this group"
