The Mid-America Regional Weekend was a good time!  I didn't get there for the Friday night meet & greet, but Dot said that was a nice chance to see some of her old Texas buddies who had moved to the region.  I met another Dorothy and her husband, who are new members of Washenaw Wanderers and are experienced volksmarchers formerly of the state of Washington.

Ginny Drumm informed me that the Kalamazoo Valley Walkers will become an official AVA club in the coming week or two.  WELCOME!  Its great to have another club join us in providing AVA events here in Michigan!

The walk on Saturday was in two loops, one a 5K into the Calvary Cemetery and one an 8K out to the Wright Interpretive Museum.

Dot and I walked the 5K together.  There was a substantial hill in the cemetery, but we made it okay.

They were in the middle of redeveloping the business district around the Wright Interpretive Center and the Wright Bicycle Shop.  These commemorative stones were placed in the sidewalk, memorializing many of Dayton's contributive citizens.

I walked the 8K loop with Catherine and Jo, of the Kountry Walkers Club from Illinois.

We took these pictures outside the Wright Interpretive Center.  There was a good informative movie inside about the lives of Orville and Wilbur Wright and their development of the 1st practical airplane, presented by the National Park Service.

On Sunday, Dot and I walked together until she needed to turn back, then I joined up with some folks from the Ohio Wander Freunde, which is a club based in Dayton.  I got to hear a lot of interesting info about the Woodland Cemetery from a local point of view.

I met up the the Dayton folks at the highest point in Dayton.  From there we had a nice view of the Dayton skyline.

The burial site of the Wright brothers and some of their family.  (Sorry about the walk directions sneaking into that shot.)  Erma Bombeck was buried in the same cemetery, under a massive rock.

I met up with Nancy after the Sunday regional event and she wanted to go walk the YRE in Eaton, OH to get her first covered bridge for her new program book.  So, I met up with Nancy and Darrell at the Burger King in Eaton and Nancy and I did our second 10K of the day.

Eunice was traveling during the regional event.  She reports that she walked in Myrtle Beach, SC and Wilmington, NC.  We are going to test walk her route in Brighton THIS FRIDAY, March 16.  Meet at the Yum Yum Tree, 140 W. Main St, at 9:30 am to join us in test walking and measuring this year-round route.  She tells me the route has lots of sculptures along it.

Jeff has recently remarried!   Jeff and Terry had their wedding in January, then spent some time down in Arizona.  Jeff said they did a couple of nice walks in Yuma.

Our next group walk will be in Jackson on Saturday, March 24.  If you just want to do 5K, this is a great walk to do that, since we will be near the start point at about the 5K point in the route.  Invite your friends who are newbie walkers to come have fun with you, get to know us, and get started in achieving a new fitness level.  New Walker Packets will be available.

Nancy sent in the minutes from the last club meeting, they are below.

If you haven't sent in your dues for 2007, please do that soon.  We'll be sending in new membership numbers at the end of  April.

There's a  discussion forum that I set up on Google Groups called "Michigan Volkssporting".  If you haven't yet joined, please do!  It makes it so much easier for me to notify you of club news through the forum.  There are folks there from all the Michigan clubs.  Use the link below, then click on "Join this group"
