Our event in Holly State Recreation Area was attended by some steady light rain in the morning and gusting winds added in the afternoon..  We had 15 participants, and 4 coupons from New Walker Packets which is always a good thing.  Unfortunately, the group walk of the event by Hiking Michigan was canceled, but a few folks made it anyway.  Many thanks to Dot, Rudy, Nancy, Darrell, Mary, Jim, Joan and Matt for working at the event!

The club now owns a roaster oven and a couple of dining canopies.  One of the canopies was put up over the 10K checkpoint, but the wind kept popping the factory knots out of the holders on the guy lines holding the canopy in place.  After several partial collapses, we have the knots TIED securely onto the holders so they can't slip out.  But the wind also caused the center pole to punch a hole in the canopy.  That will be repaired with duct tape.  So, the next time we use the canopies should be much less adventurous!  (I hope we can someday afford some EZ-UP canopies and skip all this guy line business.)

I had a chat with the park supervisor while we were there and he wants to have a seasonal event in Holly State Recreation Area.  Joan agreed to be trailmaster, so now we need to work on details about the start point and what the trail will do from there.  The plan is to submit it in February to be effective May 25 - October 28 for 2007.

TUESDAY, OCT 31 is the last day to walk Quincy!  That seasonal event will open again next April 1.

The Washtenaw Wanderers are going to have a group walk of the Ann Arbor YRE on Saturday, Nov 5 at 1 pm, starting at Pierpont Commons on the campus of U of M.  They have invited us to join them.  If you have questions about that, contact Eunice

Our next group walk will be on Nov 11 at Oakwoods Metropark.  Let's arrange some carpools to get there.

I expect to receive the stamps for our new YREs in Haslett, Stockbridge and Howell to arrive in early December along with the new 2007 parts for all the other YRE stamps.   I'd like to have a meeting with all the trailmasters to distribute the materials  for all the boxes for 2007.  What do you think about doing in in Plymouth after the group walk with the Washtenaw Wanderers on Sunday, December 10?  Trailmasters (Joan, Nancy, Eunice, Dot, Mary & Jeff), please check your calendars and let me know soon!

Nancy is working on the new route in Northville, Eunice is working on Brighton and Mary is working on Milford.  I'll post a notice when I hear from them that their routes are ready for test-walking.  The submission window for walks starting next summer ends at the end of February.

I have a full selection of distance and event award books in stock, so if you are getting to the end of one of your books, let me know which one you will need next.  I also have Great Lakes program books and a couple states / capitols books.  And, again, Ambling Michigan books!

I have an order form from AVA for early copies of the 2007 Starting Point directly from the publisher.  Let me know before NOV 1 if you want one ($15).  Historic Pathwalkers and Washtenaw Wanderers are going to combine their orders with ours, so we should be able to make the minimum order for delivery before Christmas.  (For folks new to AVA, the Starting Point is the annual publication of all of the year-round routes available in the US, listed by state.  It is very handy when traveling!)
