Dot and I walked HP's Ionia event.  The weather was clear but a little cold & windy.  The route went through downtown and along the river walk, including the rails to trails on the Pere Marquette line, which had a trestle bridge over the Grand River.

There were over 120 folks out at WW's Independence Lake event.  I helped out at the start / finish area then walked with Eunice and her friend Diane.  The route wound through lots of grassland and woods.  The club used baking flour to mark the route.

Next up is the event at Swan Creek Metropark in Toledo on Saturday.  Let me know if you want to carpool!  I'll be picking Dot up in Jackson then heading on 94 to the 23 down to Toledo.  I have room for 4 more.

The 3rd quarter reports have been turned in.  We reported 109 paid walkers, which means we get to keep $150.80 from the paid credits.

If you have not yet volunteered for our Holly event, please do SOON!  Contact Nancy if you would like to help.  Email her or phone her at 248-478-3161.  We need folks to work during the event and to bring goodies for the checkpoints and for donations.

The Ambling Michigan program books are approved and printed.  The rules are to get 10 unique event credits in a calendar year.  The first eligible regular event for 2007 will be WW's Ann Arbor walk on Jan 7.  If you would like to get your book ahead of that to keep with your other books, I'll have them at the Holly event.  If you would rather get one in the mail, email me.  We have already sold 10, with Jean Woltjer's help.

Eunice reports that Whitmore Lake doesn't offer enough walkable territory for a YRE, so she's switching her focus to Brighton.  I checked out DeWitt and there are not enough interesting sights with not enough views of the Looking Glass River, so I'm switching my focus for our fall event to Battle Creek along the Kalamazoo River.  Please let me know if you have any comment about these shifts in our plans.

We have shifted our group walk on Nov 11 to Oakwoods Metropark.  I have been in touch with the trailmaster, Tony.  He has some other routes he would like to offer for us to sponsor.  If you have any comments about these following possibilities, let me know:

Lower Huron Metro Park--2 small walking trails emphasizing the river and
woods--a walk joining the trails and going along the river, ponds and
woods.

Willow Metro Park--Trail that follows the cross country ski trail along
the river and through the woods and fields--might make a great winter
event for cross country skiing or ski shoe walking. In winter also
tobogganing.

Cross Winds Marsh--My favorite walking area--miles of boardwalk, horse
trails, and walking trails over marsh ponds, woods, and fields.

There are also 28 miles of hike/biking trails interlocking 3 of the
metro parks. Would make a great YRE for biking.

Tony

I have a full selection of distance and event award books in stock, so if you are getting to the end of one of your books, let me know which one you will need next.  I also have Great Lakes program books and a couple states / capitols books.  And, again, Ambling Michigan books!
