Our state park event at Holly State Recreation Area just got approved (conditioned on production of the brochure).  Routes are mapped out for 5, 10 and 15 K on the hiking trails.  If you can think of a theme for the event, let me know soon, so I can include it in the brochure.  Rob at Hiking Michigan is planning to promote the event through his group, so we can expect a lot of folks new to AVA.  We will be marking the trails the night before (Friday, Oct 27), so if you can help with that, let me know!

I have submitted the following YREs at the listed distances for 2007 . . .

Ann Arbor 10, 12 K
Birmingham 5, 10 K
East Lansing 5, 10 K
Haslett 5, 11 K
Grand Ledge 6, 10 K
Jackson 5, 6, 10 K
Mason 5, 6, 11 K
Plymouth 6, 11, 21 K
Quincy 5, 10 K
Stockbridge 5, 10 . . . up to 42 K

The test walk for Howell has been set at 6 pm on Tuesday, August 1st.  Please come join us!  From I-96, take exit #137, go north on Michigan Ave.  Turn left on Grand River Ave (96-B).  Turn right on Byron.  McPherson Hospital will be on the left.

Nancy sent this report . . . "I did 2 walks this weekend--Fort Wayne St. Francis University and Indianapolis (the College/River walk, earning me 2 more colleges and  2 rivers, a Civil War stamp, and a Railroad stamp.  And. . .best of all, I finished  the Walking the USA A-Z Program--all I needed was the I!  Yea!!!!!!"

Dot and I walked in Quincy on Saturday.  We scouted out some parking areas for the 5 K folks to use so the 5 K can be all in town.  Dot reports that she and Joan did 4 Ohio walks in 3 days, including Xenia and Yellow Springs.  They also did Greenfield Village with Eunice.

I hope to see you at our walk and semi-annual meeting in Charlotte on Saturday,  August 12.  We'll be setting our group walk schedule for the next 6 months, and taking ideas for regular events in 2007.  So, if you want to put your 2 cents in, please come!  If you can't make the walk at 10 am, but want to join us for the meeting, we'll be at Gavel Restaurant & Lounge at 1 pm.

I met one of the officers of Great Lakes Organization of Walkers, Mandy.  Mandy is the director of the Monroe Blueberry Fitness Expo on the weekend of August 19 & 20.  She is offering us a free booth space if we would like to be there to talk about AVA and GLA with the folks who are interested in non-competitive walking.  I can't be there because that's Harris' weekend celebrating his 9th birthday.  I'll supply whoever wants to volunteer with a table, chairs, the AVA banner, my 2006 Start Point, a supply of brochures, some issues of The American Wanderer and some New Walker Packets.  Let me know if you are interested!
