GREAT NEWS!!  We are clear to offer 5 - 9 K routes in addition to our longer routes starting in January.  Here's what AVA President Shirley Lindberg had to say . . .

I have just returned from the IVV meeting in South Tyrol. As you may be aware, AVA and the Canadian Volkssport Federation jointly brought a motion that would allow a 5k option at YRE/Seasonal events. The motion passed with 38 in favor, 8 opposed and 2 abstentions.

That means that clubs MAY offer a "small" distance between 5 and 9 kilometers along with their 10k event, and that can be advertised. Since we are well into the events for 2006, the new ruling will take effect for events that begin in January, 2007. Sanctioning is being done now for 2007, and brochures and routes are being prepared.

I know there has been a lot of interest in this so I wanted to get the information to you as soon as possible. This signifies a huge change of opinion in the IVV regarding YRE/Seasonal events, and I'm pleased for all that requested that I could help make this available.

Shirley
AVA President

Our regional director, Ginny Drumm asked that this info be passed along . . .

The start point for the Springfield, IL walk (Y0058) has changed.  Please share this information with your club members.

This reinforces the fact that it is always a good idea to check the AVA website listing and contact the event POC before planning a trip to verify that the information is correct. If your club has any year-round, seasonal or scheduled events be sure to make changes to the information on the website as needed.

On Saturday, July 1st, I met with Rob & Jo Golda & Danny of Hiking Michigan to measure out 5K and 10K routes for our combined event in Holly State Park in October.  I haven't had time to get the route directions written up yet, but here's a couple of views from the park trail . . .

At our group walk in East Lansing, we had Nancy Bratt and Karen Kreutzer, along with my father Chuck, my nieces Haley and Taylor, John, Frances, Harris, me and Chloe.  We had to adjust the route due to construction, but we went through the Annual and Rose Gardens instead.  It looks like the construction is going to be there most of the summer, so I'm going to adjust the maps in the box.  My camera battery was dead so we didn't get that nice pic of everybody in the Children's Garden.

I can't make it on Saturday for the Fort Wayne walk, but Coletta may want to carpool, so please check with her at ladyjayhawk7@hotmail.com if you plan to go.

Our 2nd quarter reports have been sent.  Here's the results . . .

Of the $234 in walk fees we collected, we got to keep $96.50.  That makes a total of $113.50 for the year so far.

Hope to see you in Quincy.  In the meantime, I'm working on updating the routes and brochures to add in those 5K routes.
