Update - June 21

There were 12 walkers on our group walk of Plymouth on Saturday.  The weather was hot, but we had plenty of scattered shade through most of the walk.  Walkers were:  Karen, Amy, York, Nina, Alicia, Danielle, Mary & Jim with Maggie, Nancy, Dot, Eunice and Chelane.  Many thanks to Darrell for providing water in the middle of the route!  (Sorry, we didn't get a picture before our faster walkers went on ahead.)

For our next group walk in East Lansing, I'm changing the start time to 11 am, so that the MSU Dairy Store will be open by the time we get there on the route.

Thanks to Gary W from Texas, I copied his source code for an interactive Google map.  I have adjusted it for all of the Michigan YREs.  Check it out and let me know if any corrections need to be made.

The window for entering YREs for 2007 is now open until the end of August.  If you are setting up a new YRE, please let me know when we can come test walk your route.  Update:  We are going to test walk the Haslett route.  If you would like to join us, meet us at Blue Gill Grill at 6 pm next Saturday, the 24th.  Here's a map:

From I-96, take the Okemos Rd exit, head north on Okemos Rd.  Turn right on Grand River Ave (stop light by Meijer), then left on Marsh Rd (stop light beyond Mall).  Head north on Marsh Rd to Lake Lansing Rd (stop light after light at Haslett Rd).  Turn right, go 1 block to Blue Gill Grill.

Lorraine replied to my inquiry about having more than one event on the same river (like Grand Ledge, Lansing and Jackson all on the Grand River).  This was her reply . . .

Yes, go ahead and enjoy the Grand River three times - you can do this,
at least unofficially. I haven't heard if the NEC approved it
officially, but unofficially you can do it and I will still be happy to
send you your patch. What I'm planning to do is differentiate on the
certificate, for people who did 20 different rivers - it will just say
that they walked along 20 different rivers - so that they get some
distinction. I figure if I don't do that, the people who already
finished with 20 different rivers will get really mad.

I have made a draft program as incentive for folks to walk more in Michigan.  I have put up a draft page .  From the comments I have received so far, I think we'll charge a small fee up front for the book (maybe $2 or $3?) and then charge for the patch when the book is sent in ($5 for central patch plus year patch, and $1 for year patch alone?)  I've checked a couple of online print shops, but their minimums were too high making the costs prohibitive for us.  I'm going to check some local places next.

TRIP UPDATE:  I have arranged with the restaurant in the Holiday Inn in Grayling to host us for brunch on Satuday, Sept 2nd.  They will offer a breakfast buffet at $6.99 per person, or you can order breakfast or lunch off the menu.  The hotel sent this description of the buffet . . .

We have hot breakfast on our buffet Saturday's until noon.  This buffet includes two types of eggs; hashbrowns; french toast; ham; oatmeal; cold cerals, fresh fruit; fruit muffins; biscuit & gravy; cobbler and goodies.

Hope you can join us in East Lansing!
