The weather was very pleasant for our group walk of our new Ann Arbor YRE.  Pictured are Coletta, Eunice, Tricia, Nancy, Jerry, Alicia, Amy and John, with Stefan up behind.  Coletta is a new GLA member.  (Chelane was behind the camera).

.

The 12K option through the Nichols Arboretum went through the blooming peonies.  Very fragrant!

The window for entering YREs for 2007 is now open until the end of August.  If you are setting up a new YRE, please let me know when we can come test walk your route.  We have until the end of August for submissions, and we need a map, directions and brochure to submit.

I have a route ready for Stockbridge.  If you'd like to come test my directions, let's plan it for Saturday, 10 am at the gravel parking area on M-52 / M-106 and Center St., unless you want to carpool to do the Ft. Wayne event.  Let me know.

Ginny Drumm had this news for the Mid-America Region . . .

Mid-America Weekend of Fellowship, Fun & Fitness – The Sequel

Mark you calendar for the 2007 Mid-America Weekend, March 9-11, 2007 .  The starting point will be the Marriott Hotel, 1414 S. Patterson Blvd. , Dayton , OH .  Tentative plans include a two walks, a speaker and the possibility for one or more workshops on Saturday afternoon and a banquet Saturday night.  If you are interested in taking on a start or finish table or a check point for one of the walks please let me know.  To allow everyone to participate, no other events will be sanctioned for that weekend.

Two more AVA Special Programs were accepted; both will be managed by the East Texas Trekkers and will start January 1, 2007 Walking USA State Parks and Walking Courthouses in the USA .  Watch the TAW and AVA website for details about these two programs.

The POC of the RiverWalk America asked that the rules for that program be relaxed to allow a river to be used more than once.  That request was granted.  (I think this might mean that getting the Grand River in Grand Ledge, Lansing and Jackson would now be okay.  I'm checking with Lorraine and I'll pass on what she says.)

I have made a draft program as incentive for folks to walk more in Michigan.  I have put up a draft page .  From the comments I have received so far, I think we'll charge a small fee up front for the book (maybe $2 or $3?) and then charge for the patch when the book is sent in ($5 for central patch plus year patch, and $1 for year patch alone?)  I'm going to get a quote from a local print shop to see how much printing the books would cost.  Keep sending any comments you have.

Our next group walk will be on our new Plymouth YRE.  Hope to see you there!
