Well, the weather did in our plans to attend the Potato Creek State Park event. The snowstorm left the roads quite slick, so we decided to stay home. This month is our Semi-Annual Meeting - on Saturday, February 11 in Jackson. We will meet to walk at 10 am with our business meeting afterward at Steve's Ranch Restaurant. Dues for 2006 are $10 per family. Our newest member is Valerie Meyer. Do you want a 2006
Starting Point? I have one available, which I'll bring to the
meeting. If you would like it, bring $15 + $2 S/H (AVAHQ to us) to Joan. Please note, that by buying your Starting Point through
the club, you support the club through our 20% discount with AVA (earning
us $3.00 per book). We now have on hand some blue and orange distance books and some green and salmon event books. These will be available at the meeting and all group walks for $5 each. The Ann Arbor YRE is in the process of submission for sanctioning. The event will officially open on May 28. The Start Point will be the Holiday Inn at 3600 Plymouth Rd. If you have any suggestions for new YREs for 2007 or for regular events, bring your ideas to the meeting, or let me know if you can't make the meeting. Also on the agenda in February will be a correction to the by-laws to replace "bi-annual meeting" with "semi-annual meeting" and a correction to replace "Event Coordinator(s)" with "Vice President" in one section. We will be officially electing our Vice President and Treasurer for their first 2-year term of office. President and Secretary will remain appointed positions until their first election comes in February 2007. A link to the by-laws is on the front page (www.geocities.com/chelanep/). Our Great Lakes Weekend during Labor Day weekend 2006 has 15 registered participants already! We will take a bus up to the UP, do an event in Marquette on Saturday, do an event at Whitefish Point on Sunday and then do the Bridge Walk on the way back down on Monday. We will stay at the Holiday Inn in Marquette and the Castlewood Inn in Trout Lake. The fee for transportation and lodging is $150 for double occupancy and full bus. Event fees ($3 per walk), food and hotel tax would be on top of that. A new club is forming in Ann Arbor.
They will be the Washtenaw Wanderers. They are planning an event at
Gallup Park in Ann Arbor on May 7. Their meetings will be the second
Wednesday of every month. Contact person for this new club is Stefan
Szumko, sszumko@hotmail.com Eunice was in Florida and says that she did a YRE in Fort DeSoto State Park, which was voted the #1 Beach in the US in 2005. Nancy was recently in Georgia. She did 5 walks, getting 3 new states (GA, NC, SC) and 2 capitals. She finished her 400 events book. She got credits for 4 colleges, 5 civil war sites, 1 river and 2 lighthouses. Let me know about your
accomplishments, especially if you have some interesting travel stories to
pass on! Chelane |
